Dear friends! You are greeted by Moscow Ski&Board Salon team! Our exhibition is Russia's major winter sports trade show, and is unique in its format!

For 18 years running, our fair promotes Russian markets of ski tourism, winter sports, and mountain engineering. Our country has about 200 mountain resorts, more than 2 million skiers and snowboarders, and over 12 popular outbound skiing destinations (in the season 2009/2010, the Alps alone were visited by over 170,000 Russian skiers). Apart from that, skiing and snowboarding are an integral part of young subculture and lifestyle. All these areas are covered by the three sections of Moscow Ski&Board Salon: sports, tourism, and mountain engineering.

The only industry-specific expo event, Moscow Ski&Board Salon is oriented both at industry professionals and end consumers. The fair combines business events and informal communication with show programs and sports contests. The fair also covers active summer sports that “stand in” for skiing and snowboarding in summer – skate, bike surfing, kiting and wakeboard.

The potential that our country has for winter sports hardly needs any confirmation. We all want our country to have as favorable conditions for winter vacations as they are in Europe where such leisure activities are a whole culture. We do have room to grow – we need to develop inbound and outbound tourism, establish dialogue and exchange of experience among the world's ski centers and domestic companies to attach citizens to active sports, and develop related markets of sports equipment and clothes, to make skiing and snowboarding more popular.

Over the three days, the fair was visited by over 42,000 people. Muscovites still make up the better part of the audience - 52%. The other half is an “it-takes-all-kinds” commotion of Russian visitors: Saint Petersburg - 15%, Moscow Region – 10%, Vladimir, Voronezh, Yekaterinburg, Kirovsk, Pskov, Tula, Chelyabinsk 2% each, other regions - 9%. Some 20% are engaged in retail and wholesale, some 32% - in tourist business, and 7% - in financial services. Apart from that, among the lovers of active leisure there are forwarding agents (5%) and lawyers (3%). They also work at various sports facilities (3%), are engaged at event agencies (4%), and provide engineering services (14%). Moscow Ski&Board Salon is also visited by professional athletes (6%) and journalists (6%).
Among those who named sports as their passion, 24% were interested in the new models of downhill skis, 18% - in the snowboards, 9% - in the telecommunication facilities, and 10% in the helmets, cross-country skis, goggles, rucksacks, and ski bags. There were also those that showed interest to socks and ski accessories - 11% each group.
The advocates of pure tourism still prefer ski resorts of France (16%), Russia, Switzerland, and Austria (10% each), Bulgaria and USA (8% each), Italy, Norway, Finland, and Germany (5% each), Ukraine, Sweden, Canada, and Spain (4%).

Participants of Moscow Ski&Board Salon

The exhibition was organized in Gostiny Dvor in the early high skiing season (October 21-23, 2011).

The exhibition consists of three parts: sport, tourism, and mountain engineering.

In 2011 the exhibitors’ number exceeded 280 companies: mountain engineering - 32% / sports 26% / tourism and mountain resorts 42%.

Ski Build Expo

Russia’s unique project dedicated to mountain engineering technologies and operation of ski resorts and sports facilities. In the year 2011, this expo event was organized for the thirteenth time around. SBE introduces a unique format of interrelation and intercommunication among the market players of the mountain engineering industry, as well as mountain resort design, construction, and management. The exhibition was participated in by the leading companies of the construction branch – “Gorimpex”, “Skado”, “ISS”, “Rosengineering” and others. Apart from that, in 2011, Ski Build Expo has become Russia’s leading partner of Europe’s mountain engineering and construction exhibition “Interalpin”.

An indisputable success of Moscow Ski&Board Salon 2011 was the solution of separating the Ski Build Expo segment altogether as a dedicated trade-specialists-only area. The planning and organization of SBE area went on in close cooperation with Interalpin Trade Fair (Innsbruck, Austria), that promoted SBE among the European companies, some of which consequently became SBE exhibitors.

Even though Moscow Ski&Board Salon was divided into industry segments (Sports, Tourism, Ski Build Expo) in the previous years, the year of 2011 saw the complete realization of this industry-specific division. Technically, the entrance to SBE area was organized through the turnstiles “Freemotion” and “Vario.Gate” provided by Gorimpex Company, automatically registering the professional visitors; SBE area had two such entrance/exit points. This feature helped to more accurately estimate the number of guests at the event (the number of special invitations distributed being 980, the number of passes - 6500).

TOURISM

The summer season broke the records in the numbers of outgoing tourists in Russia. According to estimates, we are in for as successful winter season 2011/2012. The project named “Mountains of Russia and CIS Countries” showcased the domestic resorts to the visitors. Moscow Ski&Board Salon features most of Russia’s leading tourist operators. The specifics of the fair (aimed at the end consumer as well) helps everyone find at the travel agencies’ stands the current special offers for the oncoming winter season. Apart from that, the exhibition features national tourist offices from more than 12 countries that represent virtually every major skiing destination. Besides, the exhibition featured the leading young snowboard and new-school festivals scheduled for the season 2011/2012: Laafest, SeSkiFest, AvoSnowFest and Snowpasta.

SPORT

The sports exposition was subdivided into several areas. Facets of Freeride – supported by Ski.ru for the lovers of off-piste skiing. Board Square for those who love all kinds of boards. Russian Board Art – the exhibition of boards created by our top designers and made in Russia. Sk8 Area – the skater’s corner, represented by the skate ramp from Skate City.

SHOW

Moscow Ski&Board Salon Riders’ Cup. Big Air makes a comeback at Moscow Ski&Board Salon! Considering the past years' experience, this year the contest was organized only among pro-riders in the disciplines of snowboard and new school. Considering their past years’ experience, the organizers focused not only on the visual appeal of the event but on its safety as well. The in-run was widened by 70 cm, while the relief angles at the joints were made as smooth as possible. The riders competed for a prize fund of 60,000 rubles, the top prize being all-expenses-paid trip to this winter’s main snowboard and new school festival “Snowpasta”. The prize fund was represented by Virus Boardwear

The first paces were won by: Anton Golubev (Armada) – new school, Anna Khankevitz (Columbia, Volkl, TryMax, Julbo) – new school (women), Anton Lavryentyev (Virus, Игора, Fanatic, UNION, BUMP club) – snowboard.

Ski Salon Sprint The pride of the exhibition was the classic skis contest on the Neveplast ski tracks. Every lover of classic skis had the opportunity to take part in the competition along with our champions in cross-country skiing. The competition was participated in by over 80 athletes of various age categories. The competition was also unique in the sense that it was completely open for anyone to take part. The organizers are glad to note that this competition is becoming ever more popular each year.
